I love fashion, but I have a problem: I can’t figure out what to buy for myself. Unfortunately for me, my love of feathers, fur, sequins, and glitter doesn’t usually factor into practical day clothes for a (mostly) work-at-home lifestyle. Yes, I could absolutely use free will to wear what I want daily, but I also want a main wardrobe full of clothes that are elevated but not outrageous. So I turned to Amazon.
Amazon has a lot of options but doesn’t offer any guidance. I browsed through items that I thought I’d want to incorporate into my wardrobe, but I knew better than to purchase on a whim. On too many occasions, I’ve had to return items that didn’t fit well, didn’t feel good on the body, or that have the wrong color for my undertones. At my wits end, I decided to do something different. I turned to AI for fashion help.
I tried ChatGPT initially, but there’s something that we all should know now about Chat: it’s basically a Yes machine. It echoed my current style choices back to me but didn’t add any new or fresh ideas to the discussion. So, I tried a different AI approach. No, I didn’t sign up for one of those AI apps that bases its system on the work of the dearly departed Ayesha Faines (whose archetype system was revolutionary and is heavily copied without any credit to her). I went to an AI game on Facebook and saw myself through fresh lenses.
Smile AI superimposes your head onto different bodies. So not only could I see myself in different clothes, but I also could see myself with a different physique (curvier, more toned, etc.,). I was thrilled to see how these reinterpretations of me could inspire my fall wardrobe purchases.
The core pieces I needed to focus on adding for the season are a charming plaid poncho/cape, some warm staple pieces in neutral colors, and maybe a statement belt. I already had a few pairs of beautiful boots and some stylish jeans, so I felt good knowing that I had items to build on. All that was needed was some items to bridge the gaps and help transition my summer wardrobe to ensembles perfect for fall.
The Inspo:

The Plan
I envisioned recreating this look with a black bodysuit and leggings, this poncho from Pameila, and these tan riding boots (though the photo above features dark brown boots, which I love but don’t own). I own the Bandolino Romi boot in the medium natural color, and I ordered my Pameila poncho right before I published this post. I don’t have the bodysuit or leggings yet: I threw out my black bodysuit when I realized I didn’t like the neckline, and I still need to find some black fleece lined leggings that aren’t ill fitting. I’m still on the hunt for those two pieces, but once I have them, my look will be ready!

The Plan
This look required only one new sweater which I had been planning to add to my wardrobe anyway. I got a creamy colored sweater on Amazon for $13 (a bargain!), and I will pair it with my favorite Target jeans (these medium blue skinnies from Universal Thread are the ones that I love) and either my tan or burgundy boots (I’ll avoid pairing with black, since it’s a less creative choice).

The Plan
I purchased a deep red cardigan at the end of summer, just so that I would have something comfortable to layer when I had to go into chilly spaces. That cardigan, paired with a knee length skirt and burgundy boots, will be stunning. The cardigan I have doesn’t have a v-neck, but the top two buttons can be left undone to show the décolletage without being overexposed. My burgundy boots are from a different brand and not currently available on Amazon, but this boot by Eqaudes gives a similar look. Since knee length skirts aren’t really a specialty item, I’ll try to hunt one down at a thrift store.

The Plan
Using the same poncho as shown above, I’d layer it with a wide leg jean (my current fave is from White House Black Market), tuck my button down white blouse into the jeans, throw on a belt and wear it with a shorter boot, like my gray Charles Albert cowboy boots. I’m always looking for additional opportunities to wear these boots, so this outfit is perfect. Also, my jeans are soft and well worn, so they have a more relaxed look. I know this look features a long plaid duster, but I’m not a fan of dusters, since they tend to lack the structure I want in a garment that long. The belt will probably be easy to find at the thrift store, much like the pencil skirt from the previous look.

Those are some of the fashion ideas I got from Smile AI. I’m looking forward to using it in the winter to get some additional outfit ideas!
