I’m Coming to YouTube!

One of my big “surprises” for the blog is that I will starting makng YouTube videos in the next couple of weeks! I’ve thought about it long and hard, and some messages are best communicated verbally as opposed to the written word. I won’t be posting videos every day, but for some topics, I think a video supplement is the best way to get the point across.

I have some short videos up right now, and I’ll be re-filming a video that I posted to my Instagram account last week. Here’s a video from my time at the Embassy of Ireland several months ago:

There will be lots of travel, cooking, art and cultural videos on my channel. In other words, it will be an extension of this website. I’m so excited for this new chapter, and I hope you all will enjoy the content I create!

It’s Almost My Blog-A-Versary!

I let some of the days get past me, but we’re less than a month away from my blog-a-versary! I’m so excited to be celebrating one full year of blogging here at Bronze Butterfly. It’s been such an enjoyable journey, and I’m eager to start unveiling some new stuff in this space.

I’ve got some pretty incredible stuff coming in the year ahead, and I’ll be posting more about that in the very near future. I also have some updates to share – including resuming my “Best Year of Your Life” series, which I put on hold while I worked on a few others things – and some other fun changes.

There is some great things on the horizon – I hope you’re ready! Talk to you all tomorrow!

Want to Learn About New Artists?

Make sure that you’re following me on Instagram, so you can see the daily artist spotlights that I’m featuring this month. I’m taking the time to share what I’ve seen on social media and (hopefully) bring additional attention to these talented artists. Who couldn’t use more art in their lives?

Here are a few of the artists I’ve featured so far:

On This Memorial Day . . .

If you’re inclined, please say a prayer for the men and women who have sacrificed their lives to keep us safe. Send vibrations of love and healing to their families, that will never be the same without them. And, if you can, hold your own loved ones close: life is precious, and tomorrow isn’t promised to anyone.

Take care, and have a blessed Memorial Day.

Updates: What’s Happening?

Happy Friday, friends! The past two weeks have been a whirlwind, but I’m finally winding down and getting back into my regular routine.

Now that I’ve had a little time to breathe and get back on track, here are some updates on current and future blog posts.

  • I haven’t forgotten to write up my “Four Hour Work Week” review. I had to put my reading on hold while I finished preparing for my Kenya trip. But that will be done sometime during March.
  • I have a SLEW of posts about Kenya but I’m going to release them on a one/two-per-week schedule. I don’t want to delay writing about the other things that interest me.
  • I’m always looking for something interesting to review or write about. If you have anything that you’d like me to check out, let me know!

That’ all for now. I’ll talk to you all tomorrow!

Buy Art and Support Public Schools

I recently received an email from Reynolds Gallery in Richmond, VA, explaining a special campaign for the month of February. The gallery is donating 10% of sales proceeds generated in February to support Richmond Public Schools. The gallery announced, “We want to do our part to improve the lives and education of our city’s children.”

Reynolds Gallery was founded in 1977 and emphasizes a connection with local artists. That, along with the promise of donating 10% of February’s sales to public education, is a convincing reason to check out their offerings and see if there is any work that you’d love to own.

The contemporary pieces featured in the gallery are great for every collector, from the novice to the expert. I like Robert Stuart’s “From White to Red” (2017) and Andras Bality’s “Monhegan Sunflowers” (2017).

I also found Doug Gray’s “Guthrie Theater Lobby Oct 1977 Minneapolis” (2017) enchanting. It gives Piet Mondrian vibes, no?

Check out the online shop and see if there’s anything you’d like to get for your own collection! Remember, a portion of the proceeds will go to supporting a better educational environment for Richmond Public School students.

Government Shutdown 2018

Guess what, friends?

I’m officially FURLOUGHED! Yes, I’m a federal government employee that is affected by the shutdown.

However, I’m in a great position. I always save for a rainy day and I’ve been prepared for possible shutdowns since back in 2008/2009. I was affected by the shutdown in 2013, and I distinctly recall getting so much done and enjoying some much needed time at home.

Basically, I’m not hurting. That being said, I know that there are a lot of American citizens that are negatively affected by these events. They have my deepest sympathy, because I know (from personal experience) that nothing is quite as uncomfortable as uncertainty. For their sake, I hope that the feds are up and running again soon.

But me? I’m feeling fine and making the most of this downtime. Let’s see how much I can get done while I’m off!

To Our Perpetual Success . . .

May this year hold everything we’ve ever dreamed of: love, success, friendship, adventure, peace, and anything else we desire.

May we be abundant beyond measure and constantly delighted by the events of our lives.

May our metamorphoses be full of ease, grace and joy.

May our troubles and challenges be brief and few, teaching us what we need to know without belaboring the point. And may we get the point quickly, so the lesson feels no need to linger.

May we cultivate the qualities we need to live our best lives.

May we cherish this journey and appreciate every moment.

May we be blessed to enjoy this year and many more in peace and satisfaction.
