I hadn’t planned to do any writing this year, but sometimes a story chooses you. And when you’re inspired, you have to lean into it.
These past few months have been demanding and exhausting, and one of my favorite ways to alchemize energy is through the written or spoken word. Additionally, I got some great inspiration over the past few weeks, and I would hate for those ideas to go “poof”. Inspiration comes when you least expect but most need it.
So I’ll write.
The fact that my inspiration to write is happening at the beginning of November is no coincidence to me: the last novel I wrote was a National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) project, and it’s been either 12 or 13 years since then: a full Jupiter cycle has passed (if you know you know). The story I wrote is still in a Microsoft Word file, waiting for the final edits so it can be published and enjoyed. But I’m okay with that: I believe stories choose their own birthdates. And it won’t be released until it’s ready.
So I’m writing fiction again, and I’m excited by the prospect. I haven’t explored this side of my creativity in so long. It feels like spending time with an old friend. No matter how long it’s been, you just … pick up where you left off.
I’ll update every Wednesday with my novel word count, and tell you all where I am in the process. To hit the 50,000 word count, I have to log at least 12,500 words per week on average. Given how much this story has been on my mind, I don’t think I’ll have an issue with the words. I’m going to focus on writing, and worry about the editing later.
If you plan to participate in NaNoWriMo, I’d love to hear more about your experiences this month! Please feel free to leave a comment and let me know how it’s going. I’ll be back with updates next week!
